The Candle Cavern was (formally) set up in November 2009 following a hobby getting too big! The main aim was to establish a resource for those wanting to buy natural candles from a sustainable source and made in the UK. The business has evolved into a source for handmade/poured candles mainly from Beeswax with some Soy & Rapeseed wax tealights and we now enjoy a wide-ranging customer base spreading around the world. Many people who buy their candles here return with repeat orders which we see as an acknowledgement of providing quality handmade candles at a reasonable and affordable price.
Generally, many of the candles bought in the UK today are imported from the different corners of the world and we are certainly a nation that enjoys burning them. However, the concern from this is the potential ‘carbon footprint’ created by transporting containers of candles around the globe on large cargo ships.
It would be great to see producers here in the UK providing a larger part of fulfilling that demand although it does require everyone to appreciate local innovation and craftsmanship – how far do your candles travel to get to you?
