Candle Safety

A lot of enjoyment can be gained from burning candles, however, unless they are used safely and watched carefully they can provide a very real fire hazard. For your optimum enjoyment, performance & safety please take a moment to read all safety instructions provided with any/all candles.

WARNING! Never leave a burning candle unattended.
WARNING! Burn candle out of reach of children and pets.
WARNING! Always leave at least 10cms between burning candles.
WARNING! Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.

General

  • Remove all packaging & decoration before use
  • Always place any candle holder on a heat resistant and non-marking surface
  • Burn only on a flat surface and protect surfaces which may be damaged by heat or dripping wax
  • Keep wax pool clear of matches and other debris to avoid flaring
  • NEVER move when lit, extinguish & allow wax to set
  • Light candle with a long match or specialised lighter to avoid burns
  • Keep the wick trimmed to 6mm
  • If enlarged, or second flame occurs, extinguish candle immediately
  • If a candle smokes excessively, extinguish, allow to cool & trim the wick
  • Do not allow debris to fall into & build up in the wax pool or container
  • Make certain the candle is upright in the holder before lighting and in a holder that cannot fall over easily

Candles in Glass, Tin or Ceramic Holders Including Votives

  • Before burning read then remove any safety label on the candle base.
  • Candle holders may get hot.
  • Do not burn if the glass is cracked or damaged or scratched in any way.
  • Glass will get hot, do not move when the candle is lit or has a molten wax pool.
  • Keep the wick trimmed.
  • Do not allow the flame to burn against the glass.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Discontinue use when 1/2cm / 1/4 inch of wax remains
  • Do not place lid on base of container whilst burning
  • Do not position candle holder on or near anything that can catch fire
  • Do no place on TVs or sources of heat
  • Burn candles away from walls, overhanging surface, draughts and flammable materials.
  • Burn in suitable flat based holder to contain molten wax.
  • To maintain an even burn make sure the wick remains in the centre of the container.
  • Clean out holder before using a new candle (votive)

Pillar Candles

  • Always burn upright and secure in or on a heat resistant container - hot wax may drip.
  • Burn on a flat surface.
  • Burn a minimum of 1 hour for each 1 inch diameter of the candle.
  • When using these candles, ensure there is a tight fit at the base of the candle holder.
  • Candles with a diameter of over 5cm / 2 inches should be burned on a spoked holder or flat dish.
  • Allow wax to solidify before relighting.
  • Ensure candles are positioned securely in an upright position.
  • Extinguish candle before flame reaches within 2cm / 1 inch of the holder.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

Tealight and Oil Burners

  • Place tealight holders on a surface that will not be damaged by heat.
  • Do not burn on a televisions or other warm place.
  • Only use tealight in holders and warming stoves with sufficient ventilation.
  • With any burner, ensure you do not overfill reservoir when using solid wax scents/melts.
  • Make sure that oil burners are well-ventilated.
  • There must be at least 8cm / 3 inches of space above the flame within the holder.
  • Do not use water with Wax Melts/Tarts.

Once bought, any candle/melt safety becomes the responsibility of the purchaser
